This article is being written to conclude and recap my series on the possibility of a “no fight” divorce in Las Vegas and other Nevada areas. I felt it important to write on this topic as many individuals are able to amicably agree on the terms of a marriage dissolution. Resolving the situation can save everyone time and money. There are, however, misperceptions that some have in regards to the process. I wrote my previous articles, therefore, with the goal of providing information which individuals may be able to use to better understand their situation. It has also been my goal to provide information which can be used to assist with the selection of an attorney. If you or a loved one are in need of assistance then contact my office today to speak with a family law lawyer.
I addressed a number of topics over my recent articles. Issues which I analyzed included the following:
- Obtaining a no-fight Nevada divorce
- Nevada’s residency requirements for divorce
- Ending a marriage when the spouses are in agreement
- Answering the question “how quick is a no-fight divorce?”
- Retaining an attorney for an agreed-upon divorce
There are multiple reasons why I chose to address these particular topics. First, the uncontested divorce process is relatively straightforward. There are still requirements which the spouses must meet however. This includes being in complete agreement on all issues. Second, one may not file for divorce in our state until they have been a resident for at least six weeks. Even then, there may be other jurisdictional concerns. Third, it is important to understand that the Court will not allow for the filing of an uncontested matter unless, again, all issues are agreed upon. Fourth, while the process can often be completed in one to two weeks, it is important to know the types of issues which can lead to delay. Finally, retaining an attorney to assist you can help to prevent the need for future litigation or delays in the case.
